Teaching Philosophy

Grading art can be difficult, but it is proven that children are better able to learn when they ask their  own questions.  Art Provides the context for this sort of learning, with subjects from people to abstract art, and color to shape, children naturally feel excited about what they are doing; it is the perfect opportunity to introduce concepts that are challenging, because they are more receptive to new ideas in the environment.  I feel that I am Capable of recognizing and taking advantage of these teachable moments.  When grading I believe one should take into consideration technical ability, and creativity, as well as participation, behavior and improvement.  Having students grades dependent on these aspects of the class, pushes students to cooperate with each other, listen and finish their work on time; even if they are not artists, as long as they put forth their best effort, they can still do well in class.

Respect is a encompassing idea in the art class.  One we need to respect the class and the equipment. Two we need to respect each other, our cultures, and our backgrounds.  This also includes the teacher and student/student teacher relationship. When we have respect for  one another in the classroom setting we can view each other in a different light.  With this view we can take and create a wonderful works of art.

  • All students can learn when they are accepted for who and where they are in their educational journey.
  • Effective learning requires a collaboration between teacher, students, and parents grounded in mutual respect and trust
  • I believe learning takes place best in a positive safe environment filled with laughter.
  • Art education provides students with new avenues for communication and making connections in their world.
  • Arts education is essential for equipping students with the necessary tools to navigate our "visual Culture" society.
