Superhero's : Secret Identities

Jim lee - is a Korean American comic-book writer and artist. He started his professional career in 1987, as a new artist for Marvel Comics. By the early 1990s, he had become one of the most popular artists in the field. His work on the X-Men broke sales records, and the costumes he designed for various team members defined their looks for at least a decade. In 1992, Lee became a co-founder of Image Comics. From 1992 to 1998, Lee was the owner and publisher of WildStorm Productions. In 1998, Lee sold WildStorm to DC Comics. WildStorm continued to exist as a DC imprint from 1998 to 2010, with Lee continuing to run the company. From 2010 to 2020, Lee served as a co-publisher of DC Comics, running the company alongside his then-partner Dan DiDio. In 2020, Lee became DC's sole publisher.

Style and material - Lee is known to use F lead for his pencil work. While inking his own pencils on The Punisher War Journal, Lee began using a crow quilll nib for the first time. When illustrating full page commissions or sketches, Lee uses the drybrush technique in order to achieve greytone areas with an uneven texture, applying India ink to the paper and then rubbing it with a tissue, or by using a brush to fill in areas of black, and then using the brush to create drybrush effects after it is nearly depleted of ink. To create white highlights, he uses a Pentel correction fluid pen. When creating water droplets, he often flicks white-out dabbed on the edge of a credit card to create the illusion of sporadic rainfall.

Big Idea

Secret identities - With the idea if secret identities we will look at the idea of what are the origins of the secret identities, what is the true secret identity, what would be each students secret identity, and the idea of keeping the secret to protect the ones you care about most?

3) which do you feel is the secret identity the normal person they pretend to be or the superhero they are.

4) When you look at Superman, he is an alien born with great power, he chooses to pretend to be normal.  Does that mean his view of humans is his secret identity Clark Kent, or is it just a way to hid in plain sight?

5) How would you keep your secret to protect the ones you care about most?  Would you be like Spiderman and never tell anyone or would you be like Batman and tell people you trust to help you keep your secret?

Assignment

In this assignment you will look at the idea of superheroes and their secret Identities.  You will do this by creating a superhero of yourself and your alternate identity.  We will follow in the vision of the comic artists that came before us like Jim Lee.  When creating your superhero and normal identity you will have to decide which is your true form and which is you pretending as well as how important is it for you to keep your secret.  These questions will help you design the look and feel of both characters.  Will you wear a mask to fully hide your identity or will you just change your hair and cosmetics of your face?  Will your mask be a full mask or will it just cover the main features of your face?
